Objective
Teesside University, UK, wanted a new, integrated print environment that would improve the student experience while reducing costs
ApproachTeesside University deployed a solution based on HP Multifunction Printers (MFP) and a SafeCom management and charging system through HP Preferred Partner, The DTP Group.
Devices are leased under a three-year Managed Print & Copy Services (MPCS) contract supplied by The DTP Group, which includes hardware, software, consumables and support. MFPs are remotely monitored by DTP using HP Web Jetadmin.
Leeds Metropolitan University wanted to replace its fragmented technology mix of printers and copiers with a consolidated and unified print solution that would reduce costs, improve services and better meet the needs of both students and staff.
About Leeds Metropolitan University
Leeds Metropolitan University is already one of the largest universities in the UK. With around 30,000 students and 3,000 staff, it occupies one campus in the world-famous sporting area of Headingley and a second in the city's civic quarter.
The University had an ageing fleet of 2,000 copiers and printers and outdated charging and management systems for student print and copy. "It was an inefficient and complex mix of different machines and technologies and the cost involved in supporting and maintaining all these various printers were high," says Gavin Weiner, deputy networked Systems manager at Leeds Met. "We needed to consolidate and come up with a system that would run to defined standards and meet the needs of everyone in the University.
Managing and accounting for student and staff printing and copying, especially at peak times, is a challenge for any university or college. Imperial College London’s recent installation of a DTP Managed Print & Copy Solution for its ICT department is bringing capital cost savings and greatly simplified day-to-day management of the library and cluster printing facilities.
Brunel University in the UK wanted a reliable and efficient print and copy environment that is easy to manage and that satisfied the service level expectations of its students.
About Brunel University
Named after the inspirational Victorian engineer, Brunel University received its charter in 1966 and is located in Uxbridge, to the west of London. Well known for pioneering courses in science, engineering, technology and the social sciences, the university is synonymous with the provision of high quality academic programmes.
In 1995 it added courses in the arts, humanities, geography and earth sciences as well as education, social work, sport sciences, health and business studies to its portfolio. Brunel University recently completed a £250 million (a348m) campus redevelopment programme and, today, over 16,000 staff and students work there.
Organisations today have to meet the many divergent expectations of a host of different stake-holders, balancing the needs of their customers and shareholders, and proactively managing their legal and environmental responsibilities.
Stockport College has its origins dating back to the latter years of the 19th century and is now one of the leading further education institutes in the Manchester area. The College merged with North Area College, in January 2006.
