the global leader in virtualization solutions from the desktop through the datacenter and to the cloud, today announced the general availability of VMware vSphereTM 4, delivered ahead of schedule and with the support of an extensive partner ecosystem and customers around the globe.
VMware vSphere 4 extends the previous generation VMware platform - VMware Infrastructure 3 - along three dimensions: it delivers the efficiency and performance required to run business critical applications in large scale environments, it provides uncompromised control over application security and service levels, and it preserves customer choice of hardware, OS, application architecture and on-premise vs. off-premise application hosting.Click here to read more

VMware vSphere, the industry's first cloud operating system, dramatically reduces capital and operating costs and maximizes IT efficiency with the freedom to choose any application, OS, or hardware.
VMware vSphere Licensing Changes
With the release of VMware vSphere 4, VMware has introduced a fully redesigned licensing experience. The key improvements and enhancements in VMware licensing are as follows:
- License keys are simple 25-character strings instead of complex text files.
- License administration is built directly into VMware vCenter Server. Customers receive only one single license key for a given vSphere edition (e.g. Advanced).
- The same vSphere license key can be used on many VMware ESX hosts.
- It is no longer using the VMware Infrastructure 3 licensing server or licensing model. Click here to read more.
