During July 2015, CRN (in association with Westcoast) sent Freedom of Information requests out to 100 universities asking them to disclose how much money they spent on their IT hardware, software and related services in their academic years ending 31st July 2014 and 2013.
The research produced some interesting findings, which included a significant hike in the total amount spent on IT during 2012/13 and 2013/14 amongst the 61 universities who replied to the survey, having risen by an impressive 11.55% year on year, taking the total amount from £295.35m to £329.48m.
Adding to these findings were the surprising results from CRN’s top five suppliers question. The report asked each university to advise them who their top five suppliers were based on their expenditure for both 2012/13 and 2013/14, and how much they spent with each.
HP’s Platinum partner DTP, is cited as a top-five supplier by 10 different universities. Six of which being; Bradford, Northumbria, Brighton, Teesside, the University of Central Lancashire and Manchester Metropolitan. All six of these universities had all counted DTP as their single biggest source of IT goods and services during 2012/13 and 2013/14. The final results from this section of the report showed that both DTP & HP were placed within the top 10 suppliers ranking list, with HP being ranked in 7th place and DTP coming in straight behind in 8th place.
